This summer I have had the most amazing time, jetting off far and wide – everyone loves a holiday, relaxing in a bed knowing you don’t have to make it when you leave the room is just bliss!! I’ve tried to utilise the most of my holidays this year by going on lots of little breaks, it’s nice to just not be at your own house, so I thought why not endulge in a little staycation right in my home town of London, after all there really is no place quite like it.
My boyfriend and I stayed at the beautiful Mondrian. Situated on London’s famous South Bank, in the incredible Sea Containers building, Mondrian feeds of the eccentric energy of central London, with views overlooking the river Thames and down to the city. The building captures the very essence of the sites heritage, with 1920’s cruise ship glamour at the heart, all brought up to date with modern flare under the design of creative genius Tom Dixon. The lobby is filled with vast copper walls, just as if guests had stepped into the interior of one of those famed cruise ships, and the beautiful scent of cedar wood candles burning instantly transport you to the old opulent dressing rooms of the original 1920’s guest on board.
We stayed in one of their Superior rooms, that’s what’s they’re called that’s not me boasting, but wow – what a room! Beautifully decedent in every way, the first thing you see upon entry is a gorgeous mini bar set deep into the side wall, made up with fine crystal glasses and perfect selection of hand bottled spirits. The rooms are effortlessly chic with incredible modern art taking focus against the white walls, all off set by the dark bed set. The hotels theme of merging the classic with the modern rings true throughout.
The bathroom is equally as fabulous, with a huge wet room style shower with marbles walls all the way to the ceiling. The glamorous feel of the bedroom echoes here, with amazing lighting structure illuminating the room – a modern take on a classic cruise ship dressing chambers.
To start our night we went for drinks at Dandelyan, one of the 2 bars within the hotel. Dandylean is created by the award winning bar conneseur Ryan Chetiyawardana and has a stunning interior, as you can see from my photos, with iconic green marble throughout – all served with an added bonus of a beautiful view of London iconic river Thames. Dandylean prides itself of serving their very own innovative cocktails, as well as a host of traditional ones – all with their very own twist – taking inspiration from the British countryside. The drinks were well and truly delicious, I enjoyed a delicious rum and guava infused concoction while my boyfriend sipped on something wonderful with coconut in.
Following on from drinks we went for dinner at Sea Containers Restaurant, the restaurant within Mondrian. Following round from the reception you pass iconic copper walls that imetioned earlier, just like the hull of a cruise ship, before arriving at the grand dinning room with beautifully lit candles adorning the room. Sea Containers gives you the amazing view of the river just as with Dandelyan, perfect for a date night! The food was delicious, with plenty of main dishes for sharing, something which my boyfriend and I never usually do, but as there are so many sharing options – we thought why not! The food is a perfect combination of American and British classic, all crafted with the same precision as the rest of the hotel it stands in. If I had to travel from England to America on a cruise ship and this was the food they were serving I would never want to get off!
Overall I simply cannot fault Mondrian in anyway, the staff can’t help but help and the bars and restaurants are second to none. The hotel even has its own spa which sadly I never got to use – guess I’m going to have to book in another staycation, right? People have messaged me asking if I preferred going away or staying in London, and to be honest they’re completely different. I love exploring new places, but to completely relax I have to suggest a staycation, waking up in your own city but being completely looked after is pure bliss. Click here to check out Mondrian site for yourself, and go and engulfed and book a little break – treat yourself!
