My Daily Skin Routine

I have made it no secret, my skin is just ridiculous, moments where it is extra dry, moments when it is super sensitive, so when Mother Nature decides to come along in February and give us a fake summer weather shift, my skin is like ‘WOW whatchaaa doing here’. If you follow me on Instagram you know I regularly talk about my eczema, oh yeh add that into the skin mix why don’t you genetics, and the effect this has one my day to day confidence and little things I do to keep it at bay.

A few of you have asked what products I use, any certain brands in particular and what not, so iu thought I’d do a little blog post on my skin care routine. Ever since I was a pre pubescent lad there has been one product I have sworn by, and while my routine changes and I branch out every now and then, I will always return to my first love (we are creatures of habit after all) and that is Dermologica. For those who don’t know the brand they were founded in 1986 and have fast become loved by the general population and celebrities alike. They have various ranges available, depending on what type of skin you have, and while I’m now expert in a lot of them, what I use, I love.

To kick things off I use the Daily Microfoliant which allows you to “achieve brighter, smoother skin every day with this iconic exfoliating powder. Rice-based powder activates upon contact with water, releasing Papain, Salicylic Acid and Rice Enzymes to polish skin to perfection”. Its a really really gentle exfoliator, being a sensitive skin kind of guy I can’t be dealing with too much rough and ready on my skin.

I then move onto the cleansers. I start off with the Pre Cleanser, now I know this may sound ridiculous, why Jamie are you pre cleansing your skin, but it really works, it feels a bit like an oil which just helps to break down the initial layers of crap on the skin – lets face it London is not the cleanest of places, and it allows you to “achieve ultra clean and healthy-looking skin with the Double Cleanse regimen that begins with PreCleanse. Thoroughly melt away layers of excess sebum (oil), sunscreen, waterproof makeup, environmental pollutants and residual products that build up on skin throughout the day.” Following this I then use the Special Cleanser, which is just a lovely face wash which doesn’t dry the skin out at all – ideal for those like me with really dry skin with it’s “Refreshing lather thoroughly removes impurities, without disturbing the skin’s natural moisture balance. This iconic cleanser, which contains naturally-foaming Quillaja Saponaria, gently rinses away toxins and debris to leave skin feeling smooth and clean”.

To finish off I use the Multi Active Toner, which is spray a generous amount on my face, which is a “Light facial toner spray [that] hydrates and refreshes. Help condition the skin and prepare for proper moisture absorption when you spritz over skin after cleansing, and before applying your prescribed Dermalogica Moisturizer”, and as it says on the site, I end with my Moisturiser. Now they have HUNDREDS more products, which i am sure all work wonders (they have a lovely sleep cocoon spray which I sometimes put on before bed which smells like rich lavender and help me drift off into a slumber) but I haven’t tried the others. Price wise, they are similar to any decent high quality product ranging from £25-£50 or so, however I think it is so important to look after your skin so if I’m having to pick between a product that will last me weeks and is good for me, or 2 vodka soda’s I think I can sacrifice the vodkas for skincare.

  1. Love this post! I’ve suffered with eczema my whole life, and since I was a child I’ve learnt to be really careful with what products I use. I’ve never actually tried Dermalogica products before, but I will definitely give it a try! And I’ll definitely follow for future posts!
